Do you enjoy peace and quiet?
The guards will give you none... as long as they're awake. For the pacifist, there are three ways to knock them out:

Choke from behind

Choke from above

Doze grenades

Leave no trace

Hide bodies somewhere out of the paths of patrolling guards, or they'll start looking for you. You can either throw them or lay them down.
